Since the outbreak of the Ebola Virus, Communication has been the only means of sharing the information on how to reduce or contain its spread. For this reason I will say Interpersonal communication should be given great concern. Interpersonal communication as we know is the sharing of information between two or more individual of different or same dialect, especially important information that involves problem solving.
My concerns about interpersonal communication since the outbreak of the deadly virus are:
Interpersonal communication has been one of the ways of communicating the spread of the virus from person to person, as well as the sharing of the harmfulness and how it can be contracted from person to person.
Interpersonal communication has been so important in rural areas and some aspect of urban centers. Interpersonal communication is so important in rural areas where other communication mediums are not available. Interpersonal communication has been a useful tools in the passing of vital information about the Ebola virus and it has been a means of making sure those that has by any means contracted the virus are reported to the authorities or isolation centers set aside to manage the virus.
Through interpersonal communication friends and family have been able to understand more about the virus and how to spread the information and not the virus, because this could be done through language which they understand "native dialect" and also it has help to reduce the fear stationed in the heart of many.
Interpersonal communication should be given great concern, as it is the medium that is closer to the people, both educated, semi educated and even the illiterate or non educated.
In other for the virus to be well contained and managed interpersonal communication should not be looked down on or swept under the rug, because interpersonal communication is as old as the existence of man,
Through inter personal communication I believe the Virus can be well isolated and also can lead to the total curbing of the virus which threatens to extinct humanity.

Before i state my concern,i will like to define interpersonal communication Citing miler and steinberg[1975] state that interpersonal communication is the communication that occurs within our inter_personal relationship.
Interpersonal relationship are association and connection between two or more people who are independent. With this definition we can say that communication and relationship are symbiotic that is to say communication affect the growth of relationship and relationship affect the growth of communication vice_versa. THE CONCERN OF EBOLA AND INTER_PERSONAL COMMUNICATION
Because of the outbreak of this deadly disease inter_personal communication have been suffering the following 1.Ineffective not actualizing its goal in the society. 2.People no longer get involved with each other. 3.Hinder the influence of communication in our environment and to ourselves. the concerns listed above have become an issue of concern to inter_personal communication, reducing the growth of communication.
My observed concern is that interpersonal communication in the face of this virus that is gradually becoming an epidemic is the fact that Nigerians seem to be losing their touch of interpersonal interaction as a result of fear of contracting the virus, there by leading to communication gap.

Interpersonal communication have suffered an adverse blow in Nigeria since the dreaded Ebola virus found its way into Nigeria through the malicious and treacherous moves made by American-Liberian Mr. Patrick Sawyer who came from Liberia and dead with the virus in Nigeria. Sympathizers and health workers who came in contact with him suffered from the virus or were quarantined to check the spread of the virus.
While there has not been any known cure for the virus, Nigerians have taken heed of precautionary measures campaigned about in the different media and on the internet. It is believed that the virus could be spread through handshake and hugs, there are however more to how this really happens.
My obvious concern for interpersonal communication in the face of this virus that is gradually becoming an epidemic is the fact that Nigerians seem to be losing their touch of interpersonal interaction as a result of fear of contracting the virus, there by leading to communication gap.
Handshake have become difficult to come-by, hugs suddenly became scared commodities and relationships have begin to suffer as a result of the fear of Ebola. Though only fourteen cases of the virus have been reported in Lagos, the whole nation have been gripping with fear of the virus. people no longer give a friendly handshake to stranger, colleagues even friends and family relatives. Though this be seen as precautionary moves, it is clear that the under laying factor is fear. Fear for friends and strangers, fear for the society and most of all, fear for Ebola.

Interpersonal communication is an exchange of information between two or more people. During interpersonal communication there is message sending and message receiving. This can be conducted using both direct and indirect methods. Successful interpersonal communication is when the message senders and the message receivers understand the message. In interpersonal communication,Context refers to the conditions that precede or surround the communication. It consists of present or past events from which the meaning of the messages is derived, though it may also, in the case of written communications, depend upon the statements preceding and following the quotation in question. Immediate surrounding may also color the perceived meaning of words; normally safe discourse may easily become contextually ambiguous or offensive in restrooms or shower halls. These influences do not constitute the message by themselves, but rather these extraneous nuances subtly change the message's effective meaning. Ultimately, context includes the entire world, but usually refers to salient factors such as the following:

    Physical milieu
the season or weather, current physical location and environment
    Situational milieu
    classroom, military conflict, supermarket checkout
    Cultural and linguistic backgrounds
Developmental progress (maturity) or emotional state
    Complementary or contrasting roles
boss and employee; teacher and student; parent, child, and spouse; friend or enemy; partner or competitor.
The outburst of EBOLA virus is considered as a sub-factor which influence interpersonal communication. Ebola virus is one of the four ebolaviruses known to cause disease in humans. It has the highest case-fatality rate of these ebolaviruses, averaging 83% since first described in 1976, although fatality rates up to 90% have been recorded in one epidemic (2002–03). There have also been more outbreaks of ebola virus than of any other ebolavirus. The first outbreak occurred on 26 August 1976 in Yambuku. The first recorded case was Mabalo Lokela, a 44‑year-old schoolteacher. The symptoms resembled malaria, and subsequent patients received quinine. Transmission has been attributed to reuse of unsterilized needles and close personal contact. With this fact in mind, messages are not easily communicated in interpersonal communication mostly where body contact (such as; hugging, holding hands, hand shaking, kissing e.t.c) is necessary.

Due to the nature of the disease and mode of transmission, interpersonal communication is limited in context, mostly where physical (body) contact is required for messages to be easily passed among members of a group or family.

From the very moment the deadly diesea was discovered to be in Nigeria,so many have given diffrent opinion about the virus and its spreed.
Communication they say is the essence of living, without communication living will be meaningless. So many views about this virus and yet very many people are still ignorant about its spreed and how itcan be contacted.
I think that if people who are enlighten will take up the responsibility to educate those who are ignorant of the virus and its features,i think it will go a very long way to help create authentic facts and information about the Ebola virus.

The Ebola virus which recorded its victim in Nigeria soil last month is generating much concern among policy makers and professionals, the reason is because of it potentials to spread quickly and short incubation period of between 5- 21 days depending on the victim immunity. The mode of tranmission which is mainly through bodily contact is why a lot of concern is raised about inter-personal communication, because Ebola is contracted through touching among others interpersonal communication means, one is not surprised by the level of avoidance that individuals are putting up against relatives, friends and other people. People now try as much as possible to avoid hand shake , hugging kissing e.t.c in a bid to prevent the diseases. Interpersonal communication is the presentation of self in one's daily living. Going by the Ebola outbreak, interpersonal communication in most areas will no longer be effective due to the fact that people don't want to contact the disease as they don't know who is infected. They will have to stay away from people in general, and these people could include friends, acquaintances, colleagues, families and loved ones; thereby causing a strain in this relationships. We can then say, interpersonal communication is about how we relate to people in everyday living. This strain in relationship will lead to a serious breakdown in interpersonal communication. For example, a course lecturer who has lecture to deliver to his students may not want to be free with them totally because he lacks each and every students status on the dreaded virus.

Apart from being the presentation of self in one's daily living, interpersonal communication can be seen as the face to face interaction between two or more persons; giving room for immediate feedback or response. having said this, with the Ebola outbreak, there seems to be a big blow to this cheap type of communication compared to the mass media in the sense that the communication will become less effective. Before the Ebola outbreak, people relate with each other without any fear but in recent development, the public have become more sensitized on the virus, that is, they know that body contact with a carrier of this disease, they too become automatically infected. Hence, they tend to educate themselves by staying away from the persons who they don't know their status on the disease irrespective of the information that person may have to disseminate.
From all, Ebola virus can then lead to public isolation, that is, every man to his own when it comes to matters concerning individuals and the society at large, thus, mass media then become the most trusted place for information.

My concern is on two view: Ebola can be transmitted through interpersonal communication within the individual by ways of touching, kissing, hugging etc.
Ebola can be combated through interpersonal communication by enlightening one another on the danger of the virus especially those at the grass root that could not get direct access to the media information.

Ebola is a dreaded disease that can be contacted through body fluids and contact. As a result of its outbreak, there will be a major breakdown in flow of interpersonal communication in the sense that people will feel they run a risk of contacting the disease by performing any interpersonal activities like shaking of hands, hugging and even talking to one another. For example, a public speaker may run a risk of contacting this virus if one of his audience member is affected likewise the other audience members, and as such, they would rather isolate themselves from such public gatherings.
This outbreak has also caused a strain in relationships between friends, families, and loved ones. It has also left people to the mercy of the mass media which is an expensive form of communication compared to the interpersonal communication.

Ebola can be senn as an acute viral illness and often characterized by fever, intense weakness, muscle pain, headache and sore throat.
Ebola virus has affected interpersonal communication in so many ways. For example some certain things which people normally do as sign of care, respect and honour are no more existing the way it used before. Things like hand shake, hugging, sharing of handkerchief, using the same toilet, sharing of niddles and so on.
It can be spread through contact by uninfected person with infected person through body fluid, blood product and consumption of bush meat such as bats, monkeys, etc.
More ever, it is also through interpersonal communication that we can inform people on who to avoid the Ebola virus. E.g Doctors also makes use of interpersonal communication to enlighten the patient in order not to fall victim of the disease.

From the perspective of the definition that sees interpersonal communication as the presentation of self in one's daily living, that is, the kind of a person one's daily activities reveals one to be, when a communicator's activities reveals him to be an Ebola virus patient, his audience that stand a chance of becoming exposed to the virus would not be interested to whatever message he has even though the message is the antidote to the disease.
Hence, with the Ebola outbreak, people will become isolated from each other because they lack the knowledge of each others status on the virus and then making interpersonal communication ineffective.
For example, a cinema that appeals to interpersonal communication will lose its subscribers because people from same environment enclosed in a particular place will not want to continue their normal routine as they will want to avoid contacting the virus knowing fully well that only body contact with a fellow viewer who is infected will make them stand a chance of contacting the said virus.
In a nutshell, my concern is that the mass media which is more expensive compared to interpersonal communication will hence, be the comfort zone of most members of the public to avoid being tagged Ebola virus patient only because they have listened to what a speaker has told them face to face.
Again, controversies and debate that will arise as a result of mass media messages will be treated individually, that is, no room to brainstorm ideas together to avoid the virus.

Ebola, is a virus which has been currently proven to have no cure and is deadly, can be transmitted to humans from wild animals and is then spread though direct contact with blood, secretions, organs or other bodily fluids of those already infected. This has to a large extent put fear in the mind of all thereby aiding and reducing interpersonal communication and relationship.
Through aiding, you see how people spread the news of bathing with salt and warm water, how enemies became friends in advising themselves to take precaution, how doctors and traditional (herbs) doctors work together to find an ending solution to it, how people tune their TV set, radio set, go online and interacting with another on any recent development e.t.c.
Through reducing, you also see how it has affected hospitality treatment, denial of visa into foreign countries, effect on the economy/business (meat sellers), low patronage to sex hawkers, doctor and patient relationship, parents withdrawing their kids form school e.t.c.
Talking on my concerns on the Ebola outbreak, I will say that it has “make and break” interpersonal communication and it has made me to be suspicious of every living creature around them. But based on the research and education have acquired on its precaution, have been enlightened me on how to relate and present myself in my daily living, so as to have a happy and satisfactory life with myself and the people around me.

The Ebola virus has really posed a threat to interpersonal communication. since interpersonal communication is a face-to-face interaction, Ebola is going to be a big barrier. The close and intimate space of interpersonal communication will be consciously avoided. Ebola virus is mostly contacted by physical touch and the communication spaces in interpersonal communication are considerably close.
This communication process is hereby given conditions that will create another pattern for it. In relating with one another, especially in the most affected areas of the Ebola virus, people will be very careful on how they relate with themselves, by touching, shaking of hands, hugging etc. practicing the possible interpersonal communication styles and spaces are risky to ones health in contacting the deadly Ebola virus. so many strange behaviors will unconsciously emerge until the deadly Ebola virus is put under control.

Interpersonal communication is an exchange of information between two or more persons. It can occur with or without word. Here are the various channel used in interpersonal communication.
    1. Oral communication (face to face)
    2. Written communication
    3. Visual communication (body language, gesture or symbols).
Ebola virus can be contacted through visual communication with an infected person through hand shake, broken skin, blood transfusion or other body fluid or secretion (urine, saliva, and semen).
More than hundred health workers have been exposing to this virus while caring for them or through interpersonal communication with the infected person.
Due to this Ebola outbreak, people are scared to interact with each other in other not to contact the Ebola virus. Interpersonal communication is been used to bring peoples knowledge about the disease and how to go about it. It lack mutual understanding because some persons will of the view that they can be contaminated due to face to face interaction. Through interpersonal communication, information have been passed on how to avoid all contact with infected patient such as wearing protective cloth, mask, gloves, and eyes protection e.t.c.

To effectively communicate we must realize that we are all different in the way we perceive the word and use this understanding as a guide to our communication with others. Effective interpersonal communication help us express ourselves and share our thoughts with the people around us.
Interpersonal communication is the process that help us express our feelings, ideas, and thought and share them with the people around us while Ebola Hemorrhagic is the human disease caused by the Ebola virus and it can be contacted through blood, saliva, sex, urine and touch.
With the outbreak of Ebola virus, people will avoid all contact with infected patient, those who are providing medical care or are involved in the evaluation of the outbreak will wear protective clothing including gloves, gowns, masks, and even practice proper infection prevention and control. There will be lack of mutual understanding between people thereby resulting to malice. Non verbal communication such as signs, gesture will be hindered as friends, relatives, families, and lovers will be scared to shake hands, embrace in order not to be infected by the virus. People will also isolate themselves from each other in a social, political and religious gathering.
On the other hand, verbal communication (spoken words) will be used as a measure to help spread the information or will help to bring peoples knowledge on how the disease can affect and how we can care for those infected by the virus by spreading information on how to prevent the virus.

Since the outbreak of Ebola virus communication has been the only means of disseminating information on how to reduce it spread, for this reason interpersonal communication should be given a great concern.
Interpersonal communication is an interaction between two or more persons or is the sharing of ideas, feeling, opinions between two or more persons through verbal means such as spoken words or non verbal such as gesture, signs, symbols and body language. On the other hand, Ebola virus, the human disease which is acquire by a population when the person come in contact with the blood or bodily fluid with an infected. It is not naturally transmitted through the air but rather through blood, saliva, urine, touch and sex.
Community has created awareness through the mass media, social mobilization activities and interpersonal communication.
Ebola virus has not hindered the verbal aspect of interpersonal communication because disease can only be transmitted through contact with the blood, saliva, urine, sex, touch and not spoken words. At the initial outbreak, interpersonal communication was used to create awareness of the deadly disease. On the other hand, the non verbal aspect on interpersonal communication has been hindered by Ebola virus, hence people tend to avoid the use of body language in communication. Hand shakes and hugs has become difficult and even relationship has suffered due to this outbreak of Ebola virus.
With this I will say Ebola virus tend to hindered only the non verbal aspect of interpersonal communication.

now with the recent outbreak of the virus called ebola virus disease (EVD) also known as hemorrhagic fever (EHF) simply called ebola.
some people are of the opinion that it is not an air borne disease hence you can only contact it through direct contact with the body fluid of an infected person.body fluids like sweat, blood or the saliva of the infected individual.it has been advised to use hand sanitizers and avoid unnecessary hand shake.and efforts has been made to limit the spread of this deadly virus,by quarantining infected persons and giving them immediate medication.but still this does not completely solve the problem because the said infected persons have families, friends and acquaintance he must have interacted with since interactions is part of our daily lives.

Scholars in the field of communication and the like have defined interpersonal communication based on their perception and experience.
Miller and Steinberg (1975) in Pearson et al (2003) defined interpersonal communication as a communication that occurs within our interpersonal relationship, viz; between friends, family, church members, neighbours, colleagues, strangers, etc

    EBOLA

Ebola is a highly infectious virus which causes viral hemorrhagic fever, which according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, refers to a group of viruses that affect multiple organ systems in the body and are often accompanied by bleeding.

The virus is named after the Ebola River in the Democratic Republic of Congo , where one of the first outbreaks occurred in 1976. The same year there was another outbreak in Sudan.

The WHO says there are five different strains of the virus – named after the areas they originated in. Three of these have been associated with large outbreaks of hemorrhagic fever in Africa.

These are the Bundibugyo, Sudan and Zaire sub-types.There has been a solitary case of Ivory Coast Ebola. This subtype was discovered when a researcher studying wild chimpanzees became ill in 1994 after an autopsy on one of the animals. The researcher recovered.
Scientists have identified the "Zaire strain" as the most deadly which is currently disturbing the world today.
Finally, Reston Ebola is named after Reston in the US state of Virginia, where this fifth strain of the Ebola virus was identified in monkeys imported from the Philippines. The CDC says while humans have been infected with Ebola Reston, there have been no cases of human illness or death from this sub-type.

    How it can be contacted

The WHO says it is believed that fruit bats may be the natural host of the Ebola virus in Africa, passing on the virus to other animals.

Humans contract Ebola through contact with the bodily fluids of infected animals or the bodily fluids of infected humans.

MSF says that while the virus is believed to be able to survive for some days in liquid outside an infected organism, chlorine disinfection, heat, direct sunlight, soaps and detergents can kill it.

MSF epidemiologist Kamiliny Kalahne said outbreaks usually spread in areas where hospitals have poor infection control and limited access to resources such as running water.

    Symptoms

According to the PUNCH newspaper (Aug,20,2014) Early symptoms include sudden onset of fever, weakness, muscle pain, headaches and a sore throat. These symptoms can appear two to 21 days after infection.

The WHO says these nonspecific early symptoms can be mistaken for signs of diseases such as malaria, typhoid fever, meningitis or even the plague.

MSF says some patients may also develop a rash, red eyes, hiccups, chest pains and difficulty breathing and swallowing.

The early symptoms progress to vomiting, diarrhea, impaired kidney and liver function and sometimes internal and external bleeding.

Ebola can only be definitively confirmed by five different laboratory tests.

    PREVENTIVE MEASURES

Preventive measure as prescribed by the World Health Organisation include the following:
1.Maintaining a high level of personal hygiene, which includes the use sanitisers and soap to wash hands af

    This assignment seeks to Xtray the effect of the ebola virus on interpersonal communication.Before delving into the assignment proper, it is proper we know the meaning of some terms used in the question as it would aid explanation and comprehension.They are;
    * Interpersonal communication and
    * the ebola virus

A cursory look at the term "interpersonal communication" reveals it is a combination of Different words; "inter","personal" and communication on the other hand. When fused together we see that interpersonal communication is the communication between two or more people.

The spread of this virus has hindered the free flow of interpersonal communication which is d basics of other forms of communication in the society. The virus maybe acquired on contact with the blood or bodily fluids of an infected person and this has made people scared of shaking hands, holding hands or hugging during interpersonal communication. Not withstanding, interpersonal communication which is a communication that occurs between two or more persons or within our interpersonal relationship has helped in propagating the spread of information concerning the ebola virus, through organised campaigns, conferences, communication among or between friends, family, neighbours, colleagues, course mates etc.

Interpersonal communication is something we do everyday.it is the exchange of information between two or more persons with a mutual understanding and a feed back.
Ebloa virus disease (EVD) or ebola hemorrhagic fever(EHF) is a disease of human and other primates caused by an ebola virus, symptoms start two days to three weeks. ebola can be transmitted by contact with an infected animal body fluids, human to human transmission which can occur via direct contact with blood or bodily fluids from an infected person or by contact with contaminated medical equipment particularly needles and syringes. the potential for wide spread of this virus is considered low as the disease is only spread by direct contact with the secretions from someone who is showing signs or infection.
with the current ebola virus outbreak in west africa, it is been spread from person to person , healthy people can get the disease through direct contact with bodily fluids from sick people, for this body contact transmission alot of people are scared to come close to other persons, like shaking of hands, hugging, touching e.t.c. And also some steps has been taken which include isolating the sick people who may have been exposed to the virus and taking steps to ensure that they are healthy and do not potentially expose others and ensuring all health workers who have contact with potential ebola patients take proper precautions to avoid infection, and so also if someone has had a "high risk exposure"to a peson with ebola virus that person will be ask to take certain measures even if they feel well they will be asked to stay at home, limit movement and monitored their health for 21days.
With this ebola outbreak I will say communication has also been made effective in a way that information are sent through various medium to safe lifes or through face to face conversation.
In this context interpersonal communication has been affected both in positive an negative way.

The Ebola virus also known as Ebola hemmorhagic fever is a deadly virus that causes bleeding inside and outside the body and eventually causes death as it kills 90% of people infected because there is no cure yet.
Ebola virus spread to people and even to countries by contact with with the skin or bodily fluids of an infected person, infected animals like monkey, chimp or bat and dose who care for an infected person or bury someone that died from d virus can easily get it.But a person who have the virus and have not started showing symptoms cannot spread it.
While,Interpersonal communication is an interaction between two or more persons and it is something we do everyday as we need it to
    * Share information,ideas,experiences,feelings etc
    *To build and sustain relationship
    *To solve problems and conflicts
*To get instant feedback, mutual understanding and evaluation * To make people being loved or to belong.
So,due to the critical case of the ebola virus and its eventual outbreak in Nigeria,my concerns about interpersonal communication is the setback its now getting due to the virus as people no longer interact freely with each other that even people normal daily routine like handshake, hugging etc hav now being put to an abrupt end as everyone is now a suspect.
People infected with the virus are isolated from others even from their loved ones as they can no longer share their ideas or express how they feel to their loved ones.
Relationships are no longer intact as any sign of the ebola symptoms can shatter it.
People infected no longer feel belonged to the society as they are moved far away from where people are to an isolated area.
Countries now banned other countries from entering their place and as cheap as interpersonal Comm it is now being ignored to mass use massmedia which is expensive to pass messages on the control and preventive measure of ebola and if it continues like this it will be worst as people will now avoid each other like plague...
Despite the setback of interpersonal comm due to ebola outbreak it is still the best way to pass information about the virus especially to people in the rural areas as not everyone will be able to get acess to mass media..

The outbreak of Ebola disease has affected interpersonal communication negatively and interpersonal communication has helped positively in the control of Ebola through awareness campaign and negatively through misconceptions. First of all, what is interpersonal communication?
Interpersonal communication is a process that helps us express feelings, ideas and thoughts and share them with people around us. It is the presentation of self in one’s daily living.
With the outbreak of Ebola, people no longer express their selves freely to others because of the fear of contacting Ebola. Even when somebody has information to pass to the next person or an affection to show, it is kept to him/herself because the medium through which it can be transmitted is no longer safe. Normally, the way you communicate with people interpersonally shows the kind of intimacy in that relationship. But with the outbreak of Ebola, that intimacy is no longer there or is being reduced.
In the area of sensitization on Ebola disease, interpersonal communication has really helped as it is the most effective way of creating awareness about the disease and enlightening the people about how it can be contacted and the preventive measures.
Negatively, interpersonal communication has spread a lot of misconceptions about Ebola. A typical example is the bathing with and drinking of salt solution as a preventive measure against Ebola with led to two people feared dead and 20 hospitalized in JOS, Plateau State. Another example is the death of a middle aged man at Udo community in Orhionwon Local Government of Edo state. It was gathered that pandemonium broke
out when some villagers observed blood in some
parts of the body of the deceased and foam, fearing
that he could be suffering from the Ebola virus, the
villagers covered their hands with cloths and
bundled the sick body into an empty bus and
ordered the driver to take the man to a hospital.
But the driver who equally became scared that he
might be infected if actually the patient was suffering
from the Ebola virus disease, refused to drive to the
hospital and decided to bring down the sick body
from his bus. It was during the entire drama that the man gave up
the ghost forcing members of the community to flee
their homes. But the man was actually suffering from epilepsy and due to the misconceptions through interpersonal communication on Ebola Virus Disease, the villagers took epilepsy for Ebola.

With the Ebola outbreak, what are your concerns about interpersonal communication?
The outbreak of the ebola virus has been a life threatening issue and have gain much position in the minds of everyone and as such all hands must be on deck or precautive measures must be taken to nip or eradicate the deadly ebola virus.
The Ebola virus was said to have originated from Democratic republic of congr. Sudan and much cases of ebola victims have been recoded in Liberia, sierra leone and others. Historically Dr. Patrick Sawyer who arrived in Lagos, Nigeria brought the virus into Nigeria, which had been in existence in 1976, and from that moment there has been misconception on the assumed cure for the ebloa virus and just of recent, warm salty water has been spread as a cure/prevention of the ebola virus and many have been recorded dead as a result of this prescription.
    However, interpersonal communications is defined as an interaction between two or more persons which propels sharing of feelings, ideas, belief and behavioural precepts. In a nutshell interpersonal communication is concern in the outbreak of the ebola virus in curbing its spread and its possible cure/prevention in these following manners. Viz;
    1. Interpersonal communication which is basically person to person discussion could serve as a medium of enlightenment i.e creating the awareness and reality that the ebola virus exist and as such everyone from top to least parastatal must have their efforts put together to stop its spread thing what we eat. Contact with people, etc.
    2. It serves as a medium of getting instant feedback from people who have the doubt about the ebola virus and thereby creating the platform for questions and answers forum where one’s gray areas is brought to public fore and further enlightenment is created thereby broadening one’s understanding that, the virus is real just live HIV/AIDS and its kinds.
    3. Conclusively, interpersonal communication projects the news of the ebola virus to the rural settings which ordinarily media coverages couldn’t reached and especially those who don’t have media facilities like the television, radio, and others

    INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION AND EBOLA VIRUS
My concern about interpersonal communication on this ebola outbreak is that, it has in little way affected interpersonal communication and in other way it has no effect on it. It a two way thing because this interpersonal communication comes in different ways and occurs for various reasons in the aspect of ebola issues one has to choose the way they communicate. Now interpersonal communication will have to be a thing of choice and selections that is the only way it has affect it. To demystify ebola the country as whole needs interpersonal communication it doesn’t mean you should go hugging people. With public education, campaign via radio, text messages, posters, and local information to the general public. Interpersonal communication and engagement with communities are keys to getting people to take actions to prevent the virus, since interpersonal communication occurs for various reasons which some are to solve problems, to fulfill social needs and supervision, I believe that interpersonal communication is the only way we can prevent ebola virus

Interpersonal communication has to do with information exchange between two or more people, this could be done verbally or non-verbally, one don't necessarily need to have body contact before communicating effectively. And even if there must be contact, one must be observant and verify that the person has no symptoms of Ebola. Furthermore, If the ebola virus contacts a person's skin, this does not mean the person is then automatically infected by the virus. The virus is not active until it gains access into a person's mucous membrane. Mucous membranes are those pink fleshy places in the openings of the body like the eyes, nose, inner ears, mouth, anus, opening of the penis and vagina or any wound on any part of the body. So if the virus is on the skin of the hand, it is easy for the virus to enter the mucous membrane because people touch these parts of the body with their fingers. So if at all there is need for contact while communicating,it is advisable to wash your hands often and rub sanitizers. This limits the possibility of being infected. Therefore Ebola should not stop Interpersonal Communication.

In a question of such, you need to know the key words involved which are “EBOLA”, OUTBREAK” “CONCERN” and “ INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION. Ebola is an infectious and generally fatal disease marked by fever and severe internal bleeding, spread through contact with infected body fluid by filovirus (Ebola Virus).
Whose normal host species is unknown. According to long man contemporary English Dictionary, outbreak is a sudden appearance or start of war, fighting or serious disease. And concern as something that worries you, that is, a feeling of worry, especially about something such as social problem, someone health e.t.c. Lastly interpersonal communication which is the presentation of self in ones daily living and this revolves around us.
However, with the Ebola outbreak, my concern about interpersonal communication increased as fear of the deadly virus envelope my mind and that of every individual in the society because in the process of communication., we deal with people around us and do not know or can’t predict who has this virus, so we become scared of having interpersonal communication with individual especially those from the state which the virus exist at present. Since interpersonal communication can be verbal and non-verbal , and Ebola virus can be transmitted through the non-verbal communication process as it involves hugs shaking of hands, kissing and other body contacts. This create fear in me as well as other individuals in the society, thereby creating lapses in interpersonal communication. An example is that of a lady in Auchi, who was suppose to travel to Lagos for purchase of goods but heard about the frighten new of Ebola and people woke up as early as 3am to bath with warm water and salt, that Ebola is about to be released into the atmosphere, she refused going to Lagos market that if it could be in Auchi come to talk about were she is traveling to that body contact is inevitable, and you can’t know an infected person, than she decided to stay back fear of the virus.
In a nutshell, with the aforementioned example you will figure out the Ebola outbreak will go a long way in disrupting interpersonal communication even if not verbally but non-verbally because the virus has built an awareness threat of dead between 21days of infection.

With the outbreak of the deadly Ebola Virus, Interpersonal Communication has greatly reduced especially in places with high cases of the deadly virus.
Interpersonal Communication, which is supposed to be a key to getting people to take action to prevent the disease, is now avoided due to the contagious nature of the disease.
People now restrain from physical contact such as Hugging, Holding of hands, Kissing, Face to face conversation etc which are likely means of contacting the virus to Non- Verbal means of communication. People avoid going to places that are crowded such as Schools, Church, Mosque, Market, Cinemas etc, people with suspected cases of the virus are also avoided through Quarantine and all these are means through Interpersonal Communication could take place. Thus, Interpersonal Communication is avoided.
But in all these, Interpersonal Communication is the best form of curtailing the further spread of the disease by giving out rightful information instead of misleading information.

The Ebola virus is a severe, often fatal illness with fatality rate up to 90%. It is one of the world's most virulent diseases. The infection is transmitted by direct contact with blood, body fluid and tissues of an infected person. The lethality and the potential airborne transmission of the illness constitute a severe threat to interpersonal communication. This is further compounded by the possibility of the virus being contracted through interpersonal non verbal signs of communication such as hugging, handshakes, touching etc. This mode of transmission has created a palpable fear amongst individuals thereby constituting a drastic reduction in the level of human interactions. My concern about the Ebola virus Disease with interpersonal communication hinges on the fact that interpersonal space will be dangerously affected, and the fulfillment of certain social needs, establishing and sustaining relationships and many others will be tremendously threatened because of the outbreak.
Recently, the entire country was set ablaze with "salt bathing" rumor which a substantial of the population responded to,in order to prevent themselves. This is a clear indication of how desperate people want to prevent themselves from this outbreak. The implication on interpersonal communication is that more people tend to restrict themselves from others, the lower the level of interpersonal communication. For any interpersonal communication to effectively occur, there must be an interpersonal space which brings about interactions and established relationship, but with the Ebola outbreak, these interpersonal activities will remain permanently shutdown until he outbreak is brought under reasonable control.

The Ebola vi9rus is capable of bringing this important means of communication under needless scrutiny which may lead to disrepute of interpersonal communication as only a means of spreading false information e.g. the use of salt and water saga. The Ebola virus constitute a threat to interpersonal communications it leads to undesirable of persons as possible;e patients thereby threatening the free, close and intimate space interpersonal communication which in turn leaves a huge communication gap in family, business etc. communication. interpersonal communication pattern of relating with other persons can also be reshaped as people will be careful on the frequency of handshakes hugs touch or even close conversation which are normal and unique of ways of inter personally communicating will bed considered risky. interpersonal communication can be rendered ineffective by this virus in areas of relating with others like mending strained relationships, acknowledging compliments etc.
The Ebola is a threat to interpersonal communication as one of the recognized means of communication besides others.

Normally interpersonal communication include two or more people.Often, times it consist of just two people example, a dating couples. it can also involve more than two people example a family unit,a group of friend,a social group. But with the outbreak of Ebola disease which can be contact through hand shake, with the patient, has a reduce interpersonal communication to the extent that the need for inclusion, or becoming involved with others or the need for affections, or holding fond or tender feelings towards another person will be lacking among us,because they believe its also an airborne disease which can be contacted easily. Of a great concern, for interpersonal communication, alot of patterns of interaction will be lost e.g a husband may always greet his wife with a kiss. This kiss is generally understood as a sign of warmth and affection but in order to prevent the Ebola diseases, the warmth and affection will no longer be there. The outbreak of Ebola to a high range has reduce interpersonal communication. Whereas in a situation like this, applying communication theory to disease prevention messages can increase the effectiveness of the message and improve public health, which interpersonal communication will go a long way.

Inter-Personal Communication can be seen as the interactions with strangers, sales persons in retail stores, waiters in restaurants as well as with close friends, our lovers and our family members which is very essential in a society. It was through Inter-personal communication that the coming of Ebola Virus was made known to persons because stating how it was discovered through diagnosis by doctors from d death of a patient which is d 1st step inter-personal communication played to me. Inter-personal Communication can therefore bring relationships to existence and with this communication invalid, the true knowledge of Ebola Virus wouldn't be known in that people are advised to stay away from face to face interactions especially handshake which will be an hindrance to Inter-personal communication. Therefore, inter-personal communication needs to be encouraged so as to bring awareness of Ebola Virus precautions to persons so that this virus will be curbed properly because it is only inter-personal communication that is the useful tool of giving precautions and preventing this disease. Although, Ebola Virus can be contacted through inter-personal relationships with persons but the fact stil remains that it is only inter-personal communication that can also help in the curbing and prevention or control of this disease.

  50. Name:ochonogor michelle rita option:broadcast (ict/213130682) 126 Inter-personal communication is the exchange of information between two or more people. Inter-personal communication involves the sender, receiver and the message being sent - it can only be deemed successful when the sender and the receiver understand the message being sent.

Ebola virus is a notorious deadly virus that causes fearsome symptoms, the most prominent being high fever and massive internal bleeding. Ebola virus kills as many as 90% of the people it infects. It is one of the viruses that is capable of causing hemorrhagic (bloody) fever. Epidemics of Ebola virus have occurred mainly in African countries including Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of Congo), Gabon, Uganda, the Ivory Coast, and Sudan, Liberia & Nigeria. Ebola virus is a hazard to laboratory workers and, for that matter, anyone who is exposed to it. It can also be transferred through "contact".

Inter-personal communication consist of both spoken & written words as the basis of communicating between persons. Spoken words is the one-on-one interaction between more than one person, hence, sender & receiver while written words consist of Mails, letters, notes & social media platforms such as Facebook, 2go, Whatsapp and twitter.

The recent importation of Ebola into Nigeria by Mr Patrick Sawyer, a Liberian have little effect on inter-personal communication in Nigeria because we still communicate without fear of contacting the dreaded virus - because inter-personal communication can be done without physical contact which is the basis of "transferring" the virus from one person to another. Nigerians now communicate without physical contact, it's more like CBN cashless policy - we can spend money without necessary having cash; hence, we can communicate inter-personally without having physical contact.

To conclude it all, I personally have no concerns about inter-personal communication despite Ebola Outbreak because "inter-personal" communication does not necessarily require "physical contact", I can communicate without fear of Ebola and I've seen many communicate without doing so.

Ebola is infectious and generally fatal disease marked by fever and severe internal bleeding, spread with infected body fluid by a filovirus, whose normal host species is unknown.

The outbreak of this deadly virus is the most severe in recorded history in terms of the number of human cases and fatalities. It has caused so much panic in West Africa and the world at large.

Prior to the outbreak of Ebola, it has so much affected interpersonal communication as people now tend to keep distance (remain Incommunicado).

Before going into details of the subject matter, it is pertinent to look clearly what interpersonal communication is all about.

Interpersonal communication is the presentation of self in one's daily living. From the definition highlighted, it shows that interpersonal communication clearly deals with the interactions between person or group of persons in one's daily living.

Since the injection of Ebola Virus, communication have been limited via interpersonally as people tend to be cautious of how they interact (face to face) in order to avoid the spread.

For example, just recently in Lagos the city where the Liberian/American man Patrick Sawer died of the virus, those living there couldn't go on a public transport and interact freely with strangers because of the easy way to contact it. More also, in Liberia and Sierra Leone where people have been kept indoors for so many days go a long way to affect interpersonal communication.

Going by the definition of Interpersonal Communication,
Which is the presentation of self in one's daily activities presented in the true self living. It is seen as the physical interaction between two or more persons with immidiate feedback, either positive or negative.
The scene appearance of the dreadful Ebola virus has rendered communication message effective in all aspect of information disemmination (face to face, mass media and even the public distance). Before its outbreak, communication was very much effective among persons from place to place, markets, cinemas, public transport and even schools with no fear of resstriction to anybody.
But the recent development and awareness (positive and neggative) people recieved about how the virus can be contacted, through body contact/persons sweat. It has flare-up the public minds and the various public places tagged '' Contagious''. With this in play, it has put a stop to all public gathering, our schools(primary and secondary) holiday is now extended to October due to the virus, our public market partially replaced with super-market to avoid contacting people, public transport even affected. People now restrict their own movement, as a result affect the free flow of communication.
My concern with the Ebola outbreak is that, it has render communication a one side affair, that is, the mass media becomes the chief means of information.

Since the Ebola virus is not air disease, interpersonal communication should to inform, educate, and enlighten the public on the way of contacting the virus so that the spread of the virus can be reduced.
Ebola virus can be contacted through blood and bodily fluid and it not an air borne disease. Even though it is an air borne disease, interpersonal communication can not because all business, Economic, social cultural, and political sector need interpersonal communication to facilitate their affair and activity and also to promote their every day business of life. Having talked about International communication and the ebola virus, earlier, the concern of the ebola virus in interpersonal communication, shall now be explained.

THE CONCERNS OF THE EBOLA VIRUS IN INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION

The concerns(worries) ebola virus has raised as regards interpersonal communication is way too many for the following reasons. The deadly ebola virus has adversely affected interpersonal communication as a result of its infectious nature. Shaking as we all know, which is a non verbal type of communication is a part of interpersonal communication even hugging (oils which greases communication) but with the recent outbreak of the ebola disease recently in Nigeria and the world at large, people have been warned not to participate in this type of communication. It has even taken its toll on has even affected face to face verbal interpersonal communication in no small measure as people out of ignorance and fear do not even want to be involved in a communication that would bring them in contact with another person for fear of being forgetful; shaking, hugging and holding people who are infected with the virus.

As a result of this deadly disease the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) have banned churches from organising crusades which would bring crowds of people together, other religious bodies also did same. This has largely affected nterpersonal.communication as those who would have used these organised programmes as a means to have a "face to face" communication can no longer do so.

As a result of the fear of the ebola virus, the Nigeria government have stopped the indiscrimate movement of Nigerians to other countries and vice- versa. This has also affected having an interpersonal face to face communication with your loved ones and colleagues who reside in other countries who may want to come over to see you and vice- versa. This in no small measure has affected interpersonal comunication!

As earlier stated hugging, shaking, holding hand, whispering in ones ears with hands on another's ear, holding hands etc which makes communication real and sweet as a result of the ebola scare are no more done or just to a minute extent. Aside this, the fact that according to the media," the fear of ebola is the beginning of wisdom" has made people uneccessarily skeptical about ones neighbours, colleagues, classmates, church members and even ones relations..When people are too skeptical about people, how can they be involved in an honest interpersonal communication? The answer is "NO WAY". Even in the course of having a conversation one has to be too careful as to avoid the entrance of the other person's spitle into one's mouth. This has even resulted to the locking of kids in homes when parents are out, for fear of them associating with ebola infected people, this is very common in Lagos Nigeria, of cause the death tolls of medical practitioners and their relations as recipients of the ebola virus is not unconnected to the decision of these parents!
The fear of the ebola virus has made people resort to electronic means of communication if they must have an interpersonal.communication which is not as efficient as the " close face to face" communication as an individuals presence, facial expressions, body movements can say more than words can say via the phone..

In conclusion, with the above explanation it is obvious that the ebola virus has had an adverse influence on interpersonal communication as people are now highly restricted on how they relate with people which calls for concerns in relating with people which is geared by communiation.

Interpersonal communication can be define as the communication between two or more persons which could be verbal or non verbal and feedback are expected which could be positive or negative interpersonal communication is the presentation of self in one daily living while Ebola virus is describe as a group of virus that causes a deadly kind of hemorrhagic fever, the term hemorrhagic fever means it causes bleeding inside and outside the body. The virus has a long incubation period of approximately 8 to 21 days early symptoms include fever, muscle weakness, sore throat and headache. Ebola is a contiguous and it is transmitted through body fluid, so this will affect interpersonal communication negatively, this will be dangerous for face to face communication to go on since interpersonal communication can lead to body contact. Somehow Ebola has a negative effect on interpersonal communication this will hinder people or better still restrict them from communicating freely it will also hinder people from getting instant feedback eg in a family setting where interpersonal communication is very important members of the family can be affected by the Ebola virus. An effected in the family will not be able to communicate effectively interpersonally and it will affected family relationship

    QUESTION:
    INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION AND EBOLA VIRUS
With the Ebola virus, outbreak, what is your concern about interpersonal communication?
    Firstly, what is interpersonal communication?
Interpersonal communication is a face-to-face communication with two or more persons. It is also the process by which people exchange information, feelings and meaning through verbal and non-verbal forms (body language, facial expression, gestures and tone of voice).
On the other hand, Ebola virus also known as Hemorrhagic fever (EHF) is an infectious and a general fatal disease marked by high fever, severe internal bleeding, spread through direct contact with infected body, both dead or alive, secretion organs, sex, blood, saliva, urine, human-to-human transmission/communication, body fluids, broken skin or mucous membrane, wild animals like fruit bats, chimpanzee and monkeys and fluid by a filovirus (Ebola virus), whose normal host species is unknown.
My concern about interpersonal communication is that Ebola virus has become a huge threat/stain to interpersonal communication both verbally and non-verbally due to the below reason:
    1. It has slows down effective interpersonal communication and create a huge gap between the speaker and listener.
    2. It is a deadly disease of which 50% - 90% of people who catches it dies. Due to this fact, people tend to avoid handshake with friends/people, kissing and hugging others and communicating with others has tend to reduce drastically because of fear of Ebola.
    3. Fear of the unknown because everyone is a suspect. No body wants to associate with others because nobody knows who is a prospective carrier.
    4. It has huge effects on sustaining and maintaining relationship e.g. on parent to children relationship, Employer- Employees Relationship, Hospitality treatment, Doctor-Patient Relationship and Economical Effect like (low patronage of meat sellers and sex hawkers etc).
    5. It brings about discrimination and isolation. When one is a carrier, he is automatically isolated so as minimize the risk of it’s spreading.
HOW EBOLA VIRUS IS TO AN EXTENT RELATED TO INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION
    1. Just like interpersonal communication, it requires just one or more persons to spread its virus i.e. without having a one on one physical contact with an infected person, the virus cannot be transferred.
    2. It is mostly transferred by non-verbal means. In interpersonal communication, handshake simply signifies friendship/acquaintance, hug/kissing implies intimacy.
    3. It can never take place in isolation.
    4. It requires a face-to-face or human-human communication for its transmission.
NOTE: Two-third of the above mentioned is what interpersonal communication entails in its features.
Conclusively, my concern about interpersonal/communications is that Ebola virus has a huge hold on it and for the fact that it can only take place between two or more people Ebola virus has created a gap in communication both verbally and non-verbally.

In the Ebola crisis, interpersonal communication precedes prevention and treatment. The contagion cannot be contained without greater effort at sanitation; isolation of sick people, proper handling and burial of the deceased and this has to be communicated effectively and widely and this is possible through interpersonal relationship. Lack of Information and education in local communities, compounded by distrust and denial, exacerbated the problem that allowed the virus to explode and claim. The spread of Ebola virus can cause communication breakdown.
Ebola virus has hinder interpersonal communication such as body contact viz hug, hand shake and holding of hands. My concern with interpersonal communication is that it can be used to arrive at solution and prevention to the problem.

With the recent outbreak of the Ebola virus in some African countries, there is no doubt that its outbreak will have a great effects on the lives of the people, most especially their interpersonal communication.

It is my personal opinion that interpersonal communications will be greatly affected as people will now result to avoiding all forms of communications that has to with having physical contacts with others like hugs, handshake etc since one of the ways of contracting the virus is through personal contact with the fluid of the affected person. It is also clear that people will begin to live a stereotype social lives, this will affect our society.

However, Leticia Linn, Communications Officer for the WHO Regional office for the Americas (August 8, 2014) said "interpersonal communication and engagement with communities are keys to getting people to take action to prevent Ebola, engaging local, religious as well as traditional leaders is also important."

This strategy is a good one because with interpersonal communication through proper campaign, these leaders can tell their people to take steps to avoid Ebola.

"WHO is also working with medical anthropologists to work on the best approach to the different communities, not only the ones led by the traditional chiefs but also the religious one" Linn said.

Hence, with the Ebola outbreak, my concern about interpersonal communication is that it will affect so many peoples relationship in the society negatively, ironically, it is also one way to curb the virus.

Since Interpersonal Communication entails the communication between people ranging from two to infinity. It is not overrated to say that, interpersonal communication is playing a significant role with regard to the outbreak of the killer virus (Ebola).

This is so because, it is through Interpersonal Communication that we get to know about the virus, and a way to curb it and still finding a cure through means of international interpersonal communication (international relations).

However, Interpersonal Communication is suffering a great deal with regard to the topic of discourse because, it seems not to be efficient any more apart from the fact that it informs, it does not give room for personal evaluation neither does it allow ones expression proper. This is so because almost all mode of communication balls down to Interpersonal Communication using hand shakes, hugs, and other body language that includes closeness with the parties involved.

A vivid example is cited at the house of representative where members devise new mode of hand shake

Since the outbreak people tend to communicate at a distance with several restrictions due to the fear of the dreaded virus, hence persons now prefer using communication gadget rather than face- to - face communication.

It can be deduce that interpersonal communication is loosing its importance both locally and internationally as other countries are closing their borders to prevent entry of the Ebola virus by restricting international interpersonal communication with the countries having the virus.

In conclusion, Interpersonal Communication is suffering more lose than gain with regard to Ebola outbreak.

The Ebola Virus is a limitation to interpersonal communication. it gives a big gap in interpersonal communication.
considering the meaning of interpersonal communication, it is the communication that occurs between two or more persons with immediate feedback. this method could be through verbal communication, hand shake which convey lots of meaning, hugs, body contact of any kind, kissing, caressing e.t.c.
Now, with the out break of Ebola virus, which is commonly contagious by this mentioned method of communication it brings fear of contacting the disease because of this, people keep themselves at distance with each other and the gap in interpersonal communication remains.
para venture if any one has contacted the virus, you will be stigmatize an example is the Ebola victim woman name Alice from Kibaale District in west Africa tells her pain of how she has been stigmatize, shunned and avoided, chase by her family members and lost of patronage in her salon. this rejection suffers interpersonal communication and weaken its strength.

Still on Ebola virus, even those with or without the virus are now seen as suspect especially when they assume the person is suffering from the virus (sick).

    INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION AND EBOLA VIRUS
The recent outbreak of the deadly disease called Ebola virus has made some people to ask question on the effect this dreaded disease can bring on interpersonal communication. In order to understand this better it will be reasonable to understand what interpersonal communication is.
Interpersonal communication refers to communication between two persons. It is the process of developing a unique relationship with another individual by interaction and simultaneously sharing influence. This can be can be explained using the non-verbal means of communication which concerns the many ways in which people communicate in face to face situation either as a means of reinforcing or of replacing the spoken work. Sometimes people employ non-verbal communication techniques consciously. In many instances, the response is involuntary. A sudden shock for instance may result in someone opening his or her eyes wide and becoming slak-jawed.
Recall that non-verbal communication could be explain using kinesics and proxemics
    i. Kinesics:
    a. Facial expression:- smile, frowns, narrowed eyes transmitting friendliness, anger or disbelief
    b. Gestures:- pointing fingers, thumps up sign, shakes of the head transmitting and emphasizing focus, congratulations or disagreements etc.
    c. Movement:- quick pacing up and down, finger-drumming, leisurely strolling transmitting impatience, boredom or relaxation.
    ii. Proxemics
    a. Physical contact:- shaking hands, prodding with the forefinger, clapping on the back transmitting greetings, insistence or friendship.
    b. Positioning:- keeping a respectful distance booking over someone’s shoulder, sitting close to someone, transmitting awareness of differing status, a close working relationship or relaxed mutual trust..
However from the examples we see from the both the kinesics and proxemics forms of communication we can see that at a point in time in order to communicate effectively we might need to do some handshaking, hugging and even tapping somebody which involves physical contact. In our community some of this form of communication tells the recipient that he or she is either welcomed or loved and accepted and any deviation from such practices can send a wrong message to the recipient.
Hence with the outbreak of this dreaded disease called Ebola virus, it has given me a lot of concerns as to how it might affect interpersonal communication. This is because many people who do not understand how it is been spread have been reacting by refusing to even get close to other people.

Before its outbreak, communication was very much effective among persons from place to place, markets, cinemas, public transport and even schools with no fear of resstriction to anybody.

Ebola is a very strange virus, not only is it strange, it is fearful, dreadful and mysterious. Its mystery begins from the fact that it has an unknown origin, cure or known vaccine to detect its death prone cause. Once a victim is affected, he dies within 21days. The fact that the virus is strange, has affected the way people communicate with each other. Friends are now fearfully distant from each other, handshakes, hugs and other gestures that connote love in friendship and good neighborliness are now being jettisoned. People are greatly concerned about the health status of each other. So, rather than handshakes and hugs, one gets a high wave in the air. For example, Lagos, a city known for posterity and free movement is now experiencing a more rigid form of communication because people has become excessively conscious of the wide spread of the virus, thereby changing their usual communication pattern. This does not leave the mosque and churches out of the newly introduced Ebola form of communication which is “self-preservation”. The spread of the virus cannot bring to a halt interpersonal communication but it has affected it negatively as it creates a lot of restrictions.
Ebola however seems to promote self preservation and intrapersonal communication by allowing every individual communicate more to himself first before thinking of a second opinion which in turn affects the interpersonal communication. With the outbreak of the virus, interpersonal communication is gradually becoming the use of signs and symbols.

Interpersonal communication is the sharing of information, ideas, feelings, thought and emotions between two or more persons and gives room for immediate feedback. It can also be seen as communication that occurs within our interpersonal relationship.
Ebola hemorrhagic fever is a severe, often fatal, disease in humans and non-human primates caused by the Ebola virus. In 2014, a major outbreak of Ebola Virus spread amongst several African countries, including Sierra Leone, Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria etc. The virus first appeared in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire) in the summer of 1976. Most outbreaks have been small, but the virus and captured the attention of the world due to death rates that can be as high as 90% as well as the visceral manner in which it kills.
However, the need to halts the spread of the disease by combating rumors, fears and misconceptions about the Ebola virus through interpersonal communication strategies is becoming more and more critical to the overall response due to the fact that it is contacted through the bodily fluid of an infected individual. Ebola is a disease that is fatal, and often affects humans.
The disease which is highly contagious can be transmitted from human to human. such infection can occur through direct contact if an infected person's broken skin or mucous membranes, bodily fluids or secretions like; stool, urine, siliva, semen, sweats, unsterilized objects like needles and syringes and even through hand shakes with an infected person.
With the ebola virus outbreak, my concerns about interpersonal communication are that, it has created a distance between individuals due to the fear of its high rate and easy mode of transmission.
Lovers now find it difficult to care for each other effectively especially when one is down with a little symptom of fever, colleagues now finds it difficult to shake hands in their work places, doctors now finds it difficult to have decent interactions with their patients especially the ones down with fever or malaria as it is one of the symptoms of ebola disease.
It has also restricted individuals from having a decent conversation with strangers.
Apart from the above mentioned, the ebola virus has created room for stigmatization of those who have recovered from the fever.
For example, A Liberian doctor named Melvin Korkor, who contacted the ebola virus while attending to patients in his country, but eventually recovered from it after being treated revealed that he still faces stigmatization. Korkor, who narrated his ordeal in Frontpage Africa, said he was only greeted from a distance upon arrival at cuttington university campus, a private university in Suacoco, Liberia, where he teaches.
One of the students, who spoke on anonymity, said “we want to hug our doctor, but fear that we would come in contact with disease. I will greet him from a distance. I am happy doctor Korkor has returned but I am totally not convinced he is Ebola-free. I will shake him after 21days.
However, it is important to mention that recently on the news, catholic and Anglican churches have halted some practice which includes: hand to mouth communion and the ‘sign of peace’ where the congregation shake hands during communion.
It is important to state that when an individual is infected with Ebola he is isolated from his friends and family who are not infected thereby making interpersonal communication to be absent between the infected person and his friends and families.
In conclusion, my concerns about the ebola outbreak are that it has posed a negative influence on interpersonal communication. That is, it Denys interpersonal communication between people, and without interpersonal communication, life will come to a halt, life will not exist and life will be blank.

Interpersonal communication is concerned with as aspect of social relationship. Ebola is a central Africa disease that has traveled over countries in a living host to West Africa that is easily spread by physical contact and major host are in bays, monkeys and apes.
The virus is highly contagious being transmitted via contact with body fluid such as blood, saliva, semen, or body discharge. Interpersonal communication concerns two persons so also do ebola there is no way one can contact Ebola without meeting with another person likewise interpersonal communication which can not be successful with out the interaction between persons.
The 2014 out break is the most challenging one witnessed in the country. It has led to break down in interpersonal communication, it has also threaten interpersonal communication as majority of people are afraid of being infected,it will reduce mutual understanding and international communication, leads to information distortion and disrepute and also will create a very big communication gap between persons.
It has led to the reduction in international communication where countries come together especially in games activities.
Another issue is that of the exchange of nigeria currency since nigeria has not gone fully cash less, currencies must continue to exchange hands body contact can't be completely ruled out as scores of people must also go to the market every day to buy their needs.
The fact still remains that there is a tin line through which one can contact this virus because in every day of our lives we involve ourselves in various activities that can lead to body contact e.g hand shake, public buses and so on.

Since ‘THE EBOLA VIRUS’ came to Nigeria by Mr Patrick Sawyer who came from Liberia and dead with the virus, the nurse who make an attempt to treat him became victim of the virus.
WITH THE EBOLA OUT BREAK; different forms of greetings have have been introduce in our relationship with others. even the whole country have been gripped with fear by using Salt with HOT Water to bath. Despite that the fear of ebola still increases and it has serve as a great barrier to an effective communication both National and International, Some people have devise means to avoid hand shakes and body hugs, many of us are used to shaking hands, huging, touching, kissing, friends colleagues, family, relatives and lovers e,t,c But the ebola out break is developing a barrier that is capable of killing or reducing the ways we all relates.my advice about this ebola virus is that proper campaign should be carried out by using the mass media programs on radio TV to educate and enlighten the people through English language pigin English and the various languages in Nigeria.

Interpersonal communication involves two to infinity and is the fastest means of spreading Ebola virus based on research.
Since Ebola is contagious through handshake, Saliva, heat even sex it now means that the outbreak of this virus will reduce the level of interpersonal communication because families now abandoned their sick ones even when they are not sure if the person is infected with the virus. The level of relationship reduced friends avoided themselves; even those that claimed to love avoided themselves just because of the fear of Ebola.

But since the outbreak of this one of the four Ebola virus deadly known to cause disease to humans called Ebola virus is considered as a sub-factor which, influence interpersonal communication. My concerns to interpersonal communication is that it the deadly disease Ebola virus and mode of transmission interpersonal communication is limited in context, mostly where physical body contact is involved for messages to be passed among members of a family or group. Since the virus can be contract through human to human transmission, with infection resulting from direct contact ( through broken skin or mucous membranes) with blood, secretions, organs, or through bodily fluids of infected people, and indirect contact with environments contaminated with such fluid.

These approaches can occur in a health facility, the home, or elsewhere and among small groups, such as with a family, or one-on-one. The advantage of interpersonal approaches is that they can tailor information to a client’s needs. They can be simulated through many different channels, including media campaigns or other forms of technology, such as the delivery of personalized SMS (Storey, 2011).
We could also use traditional African communication methods, which are reliable, effective and authoritative.
African Oral media such the use of gongs, drum beat, town criers, puppet shows, dance, singing and masquerade are still effective communication channels in rural parts of Africa. Government, private sector, traditional and religious bodies can come together to help spread the news among the general population.
“The uniqueness of the African means of communication is embedded in their originality, creativity, tradition and culture of the people. These essentially make them highly effective and enduring in the dissemination of information personally, inter-personally and through group communications,” describes s researcher Sulaiman A. Osho at University of Aberdeen.
For instance the chiefs in the rural parts of Africa can spread the word by gongo (and the gong beater shares the message in a given geographical area) across the villages. This is an effective and authoritative medium of communication in the villages, as he carries out his role on the order of the chief, and the people of those communities obey the voice of their chiefs.
Let’s use both modern technology and traditional African mediums to spread the news about Ebola prevention.

Ebola virus disease (E.V.D), formerly known as Ebola hemorrhagic fever is a severe, fever is a severe, often fatal illness in human.
Ebola outbreaks have a case fatality rate of up to 90%. The virus is transmitted to people from wild animals are spread in human population through human-to-human transmission. It is introduced into human population through close contact with the blood secretion organs or bodily fluids of infected animals.
So, inter-personal communication can cause the outbreak through social, academic, commercial, political and cultural endeavours of men. Since it is communication that involves two or more persons, these persons are likely to have body contacts either by hand-shake, sexual inter-course and with the transmission of fluid from one infected person to another. For instance, Health care workers have frequently been infected while treating patients with suspected or confirmed ebola. This has occurred through the close contact with patients.
With outbreak of ebola, my concern for interpersonal communication I therefore strongly advice to take precaution when addressing, attending to infected audience or treating patient with the stipulated virus to put on hand-glove and any preventive tools to avoid the deadly virus.

The virus (Ebola) has really caused more harm than good to interpersonal communication interpersonal communication being the communication between two persons has been stopped to an extent. My concern about it is that people should learn to educate others about the said virus instead of spreading the virus and making people have a different view about it.
The said virus has really brought breakdown in interpersonal communication and therefore, there should be sensitization programme so as to make people more aware and inform about the virus.
People are now afraid to have handshake, hug, and even sit together. All these of course are part of interpersonal communication.
So in this regards, I think sensitization programme will go a long way helping interpersonal communication to full ground once again.

Ebola is disease that has been in existence over four decade ago and just recently, it's popularity spread like a wide fire because of the Liberian prime minister who died if the virus here in Nigeria. Relating this dreaded virus to interpersonal communication. I'll say that it has brought fear to the minds of millions here in Nigeria. Communication is what we are involved in so often because we can't do without it. It's our tool for living. Interpersonal communication on the other hand is the exchange of information between two or more person's. With this in mind, i will say Ebola outbreak has brought a hitch to the free flow of interpersonal communication in the sense that people no longer communicate safely. They have been rumours that suggest that one easily get infected with Ebola through hand shakes, fluid contact, sweat, and recently telephone lines. And this has become a barrier to the effectiveness of interpersonal communication. E:g Using my self as an example. As a politician i usually greet and shake hands with people, just at the outbreak of Ebola virus, these set of individuals started acting like I've got the virus my self and it was not funny. Conclusively I'll say that Ebola outbreak has done more harm to good on interpersonal communication, though on the other hand it has brought back the consciousness of healthy living to millions of people in Nigeria.

The recent outbreak of the deadly disease of EBOLA VIRUS has made so many people to ask questions on the effect this can bring on the interpersonal communication, in order to understand this better it will be reasonable to know what is interpersonal communication and the concept of EBOLA VIRUS:-
Interpersonal communication is an exchange of information between two or more people. It is also an area of study. During interpersonal communication there is “message sending” and “message receiving”. This can be conducted using both direct and indirect method. Successfully interpersonal communication is when a message sender and the message receiver understand the message.
While the EBOLA VIRUS is described as a group of virus that causes a deadly kind of hemorrhagic fever the term “hemorrhagic fever” means it causes bleeding inside and outside the body. The virus has a long incubation period of approximately 8 to 21 days. Early symptoms include fever, muscle weakness, sore throat and headaches
Since this deadly disease can be contacted via direct contact with blood or bodily fluid from an infected person or bodily fluids from an embalming of an infected dead person or by contact with contaminated medical equipment, particularly needle, syringe, and not merely of a face to face communication can someone contact this deadly disease. To me a way of communicating this Ebola virus prevention include decreasing the spread of disease from infected animals to humans. This may be done by checking such animals for infection and killing and properly disposing of the bodies. If the disease is discovered, properly cooking of meat and wearing protective clothing and washing of hands when around a person with the disease.
In addition, through voice based mobile technology, message can be shared with people who are illiterate. The grant of money also could support “town crier” out reaches, in which young people with megaphones go through the villages sharing important information, Data access through mobile carriers for sharing health and pastoral messages and establishing an emergency communications fund for providing support in crises and disasters, including the Ebola outbreak.
In conclusion, for people to be properly informed, the government should endeavor to work hand in hand with the media, in order for the media to announce this virus on how it can be prevented, diagnose and treatment, on radio programs, television , banners, cellular phone, mobile texting that can reach large number of people at a given time with this information this members of the public that are familiar with the media will communicate this with their friends, family members, relatives, villagers, social groups in their neighborhood through a face to face way of communication that are not privileged to use the media. And people should be urged to take all precautions advised by the government and health officials.

Interpersonal communication is an active window through which awareness of the dreaded Ebola virus disease is being communicated. Through interpersonal communication people get to receive information pertaining the virus.
However, the Ebola virus disease has introduced a new dimension into Interpersonal communication. less physical involvement in fraternizing, more consciousness about physical contact, heightened fear that compels a higher need for hygiene e.g. washing of hands often, etc
Furthermore, my concern is that this fear also tempers with information management. People have varying information from the grapevine concerning the virus which could be more fatal (the salt water outbreak). it has also revealed a propensity for diabolism in average Nigerians as some people are attributing it to fiendish origins. This has impacted negatively on Interpersonal communication.

Ebola virus disease (EVD) or Ebola hemorrhagic fever (EHF) is a disease of humans and other primates caused by an ebola virus. Symptoms start two days to three weeks after contracting the virus with a fever, sore throat, muscle pain and headaches. typically, vomiting, diarrhea and rash follow, along with decreased functioning of the liver and kidneys. around this time, affected people may begin to bleed both within the body and externally.

The virus may be acquired upon contact with blood or bodily fluids of an infected animal.

More so, as the saying goes that communication is live, as a student of interpersonal communication, my concern is that you have to advice the general public on the preventions, which includes decreasing the spread of disease from infected animals to humans. This may be done by checking such animals for infection and killing and properly disposing of the bodies if the disease is discovered.

interpersonal communication has helped in the dissemination of information about the Ebola disease. through I.C. people communicate their feelings and attitude towards the virus. these feelings and attitudes apart from performing the function of informing the uninformed, goes further to create a bad-blood between victims and the uninfected. Information takes a new shape.
Additionally, there is now a high range of consciousness with regards to hygiene. People now tend to be more careful with things relating to their health.

It is usually involves face to face interaction, because both the spoken and body language are used to communicate. Interpersonal communication can be verbal or non verbal. When we communicate, non-verbal cues can be as important, or in some cases even more important, than what we say. Non-verbal communication can have a great impact on the listener and the outcome of the communication.
My concern about interpersonal communication with the outbreak of Ebola is that it has created a communication gab between people most especially in using non verbal form of communication because, In the current outbreak in West Africa, the majority of cases in humans have occurred as a result of human-to-human transmission Infection occurs from direct contact through broken skin or mucous membranes with tth blood, or other bodily fluids or secretions (stool, urine, saliva, semen) of infected people. Infection can also occur if broken skin or mucous membranes of a healthy person come into contact with environments that have become contaminated with an Ebola patients infectious fluid such as soiled clothing, bed linen, or used needles. This had led to isolation of effected persons.
Touches among humans that can be defined as interpersonal communication include handshakes holding hands, kissing (cheek, lips, hand), back slapping, high fives , a pat on the shoulder, and brushing an arm. Touching of oneself may include licking, picking, holding, and scratching. Touch is an extremely important sense for humans; as well as providing information about surfaces and textures it is a component of nonverbal communication in interpersonal relationships, and vital in conveying physical intimacy. It can be both sexual (such as kissing) and platonic(such as hugging or tickling).
There are four types of proxemics with different distances depending on the situation and people involved. Intimate distance is used for close encounters like embracing, touching, or whispering. Personal distance is for interactions with close friends and family members. Social distance is for interactions among acquaintances. It is mostly used in workplace or school settings where there is no physical contact. Public distance is for strangers or public speaking.
Non-verbal codes are used to establish and maintain interpersonal relationships. It is considered more polite or nicer to communicate attitudes towards others non-verbally rather than verbally, for instance in order to avoid embarrassing situations.
There are five primary functions of nonverbal bodily behavior in human communication:
    1. Express emotions
    2. Express interpersonal attitudes To accompany speech in managing the cues of interaction between speakers and listeners
    3. Self-presentation of one's personality
    4. Greetings
In regards to expressing interpersonal attitudes, humans communicate interpersonal closeness through a series of nonverbal actions known as immediacy behaviors. Examples of immediacy behaviors are smiling, touching, open body positions, and eye contact. Cultures that display these immediacy behaviors are considered high-contact cultures.
But with the outbreak of Ebola, all these has become difficult and in some areas impossible to display. Family members and loved ones can no more show affection to one another. The outbreak of Ebola has indeed created a very big problem in interpersonal communication

we Nigerians should sit down and critically analyze what the problem really is rather than creating fear in the minds of the public.

They now avoid being in contact with each other making interpersonal communication not vibrant. People now disassociate from each other for the fear of contacting the virus. With this virus outbreak, interpersonal communication is not intensifying because the way we ought to communicate personal or mutual concern about others is not encouraging.
One thing we should note that the major reason why we involve ourselves in interpersonal communication is not achieved because of this virus. The normal closeness which used to be between individual has been cut short in area where this virus is detected. The interpersonal relationship that involve people who are interdependent which means that people are mutually dependent on each other and having an impact has faded away in areas where this virus is found.

Ebola virus disease (EVD) or Ebola hemorrhagic fever (EHF) is a disease of humans and other primates caused by an ebolavirus. Symptoms start two days to three
weeks after contracting the virus, with a fever, sore throat, muscle pain and headaches. Typically, vomiting, diarrhea and rash follow, along with decreased functioning of the liver and kidneys.
The first identified case of Ebola was on 26 August 1976, in Yambuku, a small rural village in Mongala District in northern Democratic Republic of the Congo (then known as Zaire). The first victim, and the index case for the disease, was village school headmaster Mabalo Lokela, who had toured an area near the Central
African Republic border along the Ebola river between 12–22 August. On 8 September he died of what would become known as the Ebola virus species of the
ebolavirus.Subsequently a number of other cases were reported, almost all centered on the Yambuku mission hospital or having close contact with another case. 318 cases and 280 deaths occurred in the DRC. The Ebola outbreak was contained with the help of the World Health Organization and transport from the Congolese air force, by quarantining villagers, sterilizing medical equipment, and providing protective clothing. The virus responsible for the initial outbreak, first thought to be Marburg virus was later identified as a new type of virus related to Marburg, and named after the nearby Ebola river. Another ebolavirus, the Sudan virus species, was also identified that same year when an outbreak occurred in Sudan, affecting 284 people and killing 151. Signs and symptoms of Ebola usually begin suddenly with an influenza-like stage characterized by fatigue, fever, headaches, joint, muscle and abdominal pain, Vomiting, diarrhea and loss of appetite are also common. Less common symptoms include the following: sore throat, chest pain, hiccups, shortness of breath and trouble swallowing. The average time between contracting the infection and the start of symptoms (incubation period) is 8 to 10 days, but it can vary between 2 and 21 days.Skin manifestations may include a maculopapular rash (in about 50% of cases).Early symptoms of EVD may be similar to those of malaria, dengue fever or other tropical fevers, before the disease progresses to the bleeding phase.
All Nigerian’s confirmed cases of the virus have been restricted to Lagos since Liberian-American Patrick Sawyer introduced the virus to the commercial city on
July 20 before the announcement, Patrick Sawyer who was attended to by a doctor and two nurses died few weeks later. Interpersonal communication is an exchange of information between two or more people. It is also an area of study. Related skills are learned and can be
improved. During interpersonal communication there is message sending and message receiving. This can be conducted using both direct and indirect methods. Successful interpersonal communication is when the message senders and the message receivers understand the message.
To reduce the spread of the Ebola virus interpersonal communication should be done with caution by.
Abstain from all illicit sexual behaviour, Wash hands with soap and disinfectants regularly to avoid possible contact through hand shake, Always wear hand gloves (especially in large public gathering) where neccesssary, Report suspected victims to doctors, Educate yours friends and colleagues on how to prevent the disease,
Avoid contact with people with poor hygiene.

The outbreak of the Ebola epidemic brought in its wake numerous levels of fears and speculations. These uncertainties are further enhanced by the established fact that it yet had no known standard cure or vaccine. But even more petrifying is its very contagious attribute. The knowledge that it could be contacted from very normal human acts such as interpersonal communication and innocent physical contact with a carrier is enough to instill fear and suspicious concern for every other not so familiar person.
The unity of Nigeria against the backdrop of her cultural and human diversity is profoundly dependent of interpersonal communication; which is now threatened by the apprehension fostered by the Ebola outbreak. This major concern distills down to smaller groups of people who need physical contact for the sustenance of their essence such as lovers and the married. As preemptive measures to check the spread of the virus, physical contact between people and even ordinary communication is advisably made minimal. This would no doubt hurt or be offensive to very sensitive individuals.

Interpersonal communication has been a useful tools in the passing of vital information about the Ebola virus and it has been a means of making sure those that has by any means contracted the virus are reported to the authorities or isolation centers set aside to manage the virus.Since the outbreak of the Ebola Virus, Communication has been the only means of sharing the information on how to reduce or contain its spread. For this reason I will say Interpersonal communication should be given great concern. Interpersonal communication as we know is the sharing of information between two or more individual.Interpersonal communication have suffered an adverse blow in Nigeria since the dreaded Ebola virus found its way into Nigeria through the malicious and treacherous moves made by American-Liberian Mr. Patrick Sawyer who came from Liberia and died with the virus in Nigeria. Communication has since then suffered as people are scared to talk to one another in order not to contact the dreaded disease. In dis regards the Federal Ministry of Education has even postponed the resumption of the primary and secondary school students. Because there is no two ways about it communication must take place.

In regard to my concern about interpersonal communication on ebola outbreak,it is crucial to know what interpersonal communucation and ebola virus is all about.
Interpersonal communication according to Miller(1978) in Pearson et'al(2003) is defined by the context or situation ,e.g communication that occurs among a small group of communicators usually two with a face to face setting with the opportunity of immediate feedback.
On the other hand,Ebola Virus Disease also known as Ebola Haemorrhagic Fever is a disease of human and primate caused by an ebola virus.According to WHO,the disease typically occur in outbreak in tropical region of sub saharan africa.from 1976 when it was first discovered through 2013 a total of 1716 cases has been reported.
To this regard, interpersonal communication plays its major role which include solving a problem, sharing information and improving on one's perception.
Through interpersonal communication, there has been a global campaign which has help spread how the disease could be contacted, its symptoms and preventive measures.
In conclusion,my concern about interpersonal communication on the ebola virus outbreak is,through interpersonal communication, virtually everyone, both the urban and rural dwellers are aware of the disease
